How to make a return

CDS Vic provides a 10 cent refund for every eligible drink container returned.  Each bottle, can and carton that you return helps to divert valuable containers from landfill. 

Eligible containers
Most aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. Keep the lids on, we recycle them too!

There are hundreds of refund points across Victoria, so look out for your local. The network has more than 600 refund points.

There are multiple ways to receive your 10 cent refund. You can either keep your refund, or support your favourite cause with a donation.

Terms and Conditions - The Dollar Match competition

1. The Dollar Match Competition (Competition or Dollar Match) is conducted by Landcare Victoria Inc. ABN 69 561 995 226 of Suit 1, Level 4, 24-28 Collins Street Melbourne (Landcare).

2. Dollar Match commences at 12AM AEST on 2 June 2025 and closes by: 

  1. 11:59PM AEST on 31 October 2025 or  
  2. when the total prize pool is exhausted, 

    whichever is later (Competition Period). 

Eligibility  

3. Entry is open to Landcare networks and groups who are:

  1. operating in the State of Victoria;  
  2. Financial Members of Landcare Victoria Inc.; and  
  3. registered as a Donation Partner with:  
    1. CDS Vic; and  
    2. at least one CDS Vic Zone Operator (TOMRA Cleanaway, Visy or Return It).  

(Participating Group)

How to participate

4. A Participating Group may participate during the Competition Period by:

  1. Presenting a minimum of 10,000 eligible containers (raising a minimum of $1,000) at CDS Vic refund points (Refund Point); and
  2. ensuring that each eligible container that is presented at a Refund Point is recorded as collected against the Participating Group’s Donation Partner ID at the time of presentation, either through:
    1. using the Zone Operator’s smart phone app; or
    2. following the steps directed by Refund Point staff.

5. There is no limit to how many times a Participating Group may present eligible containers for collection at a Refund Point to reach minimum target goal specified above, except that all eligible containers must be collected by a Refund Point in compliance with:

  1. section 4 above; and
  2. CDS Vic public guidance (eg, guidance at www.cdsvic.org.au) and the legislation governing CDS Vic (CDS Vic Rules).

6. It is up to Refund Point staff to determine whether a container may be accepted at a Refund Point in accordance with the CDS Vic Rules. The decision of Refund Point staff at the time of presentation is final.  

Participation restrictions and responsibilities

7. Each Participating Group will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all Group members and volunteers that assist a Participating Group to participate in this Competition. Each Participating Group will be responsible for obtaining consent from the parents or guardians of any Group members and volunteers under the age of 18 years before participating in the Competition.  

8. The following people must not be involved with a Participating Group as part of the Competition:  

  1. Landcare Victoria Inc Staff, Board Directors and their immediate family; and  
  2. any employees of Recycling Victoria, the CDS Vic Scheme Coordinator (VicReturn Limited) or a Zone Operator, and their immediate family members.  

How to enter  

9. To enter, eligible Participating Groups must, at any time after the commencement of the Competition Period but before 11:59PM AEST on 31 October 2025 (Submission Date):

  1. complete the application form providing their organisation name, contact details, CDS Vic Donation Partner ID and other specified information, available at from Landcare’s website at [insert website link]; and  
  2. as part of the application form, upload proof of transactions, such as receipts or screenshots, that show the minimum 10,000 containers were returned against the Participating Group’s Donation Partner ID in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.  

Determining the Dollar Matching winners

10. The first five Participating Groups to submit their online form and proof of transactions under section 9 will be eligible to receive $1,000 to match the value of their collected containers (a Prize). The total value of the available prize pool is $5,000 (Total Prize Pool).  

11. The Scheme Coordinator of CDS Vic, VicReturn Limited, will verify the proof of transactions submitted by each Participating Group under section 10, after which the successful Participating Groups will be awarded a Prize (each a Winner).  

12. A Participating Group determined as a Winner can only win the Prize once.  

Announcing the winner and accepting a Prize  

13. Landcare Victoria Inc. will take reasonable steps to notify each Winner directly by email and/or phone within 14 business days of the Submission Date.

14. The name of each Winner will also be announced on CDS Vic's website www.cdsvic.org.au within 30 days of the Notification Date.  

15. To accept a Prize, each Winner must  

  1. accept these Terms and Conditions over email within 10 business days of being contacted by email and/or phone; and  
  2. agree to support on any promotional or media activity to accompany the presentation of a Prize.

16. Transfer of Prize Money  

  1. Winners will need to provide Landcare Victoria Inc. with Tax Invoices for participant groups that are GST registered ($1,100 including GST) or an Invoice stating their ABN for non-GST registered groups ($1,000).  For Participant groups that do not have an ABN, a Statement by Supplier will be needed;
  2. Prize funds will be transferred by Landcare Victoria Inc. into the Participant Winner’s bank account within 20 days of receiving the invoice and acceptance of Terms and Conditions under section 15.a.  

Suspension or redistribution of outstanding Total Prize Pool  

17. Without limiting any right of Landcare Victoria Inc. under these Terms and Conditions, if less than 5 Participating Groups submit a valid, verified entry after the Submission Date, Landcare Victoria Inc. may, in its absolute discretion, after awarding any Prizes above to existing Winners:  

  1. Lower the minimum number of containers to enter under section 4 above, extend the Submission Date, and apply the remainder of the unclaimed Total Prize Pool to a new cohort of Participating Groups; or  
  2. cancel this Competition and either:  
    1. announce a new competition using the remainder of the unclaimed Total Prize Pool;  
    2. distribute the remainder of the unclaimed Total Prize Pool to Landcare’s Victorian networks or groups; or  
    3. otherwise apply the remainder of the unclaimed Total Prize Pool to a new initiative that supports Landcare’s objectives.  

Resolving disputes

18. Complaints regarding the Dollar Match Competition may be submitted by:

19. If there is a dispute concerning the complaint, the decision of Landcare Victoria Inc. is final and binding, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

General

20. Information on how to enter and prize details set out in all communications regarding the Competition form part of these terms.

21. Should they be a Winner, Participating Groups consent to publication of their name in accordance with these terms.

22. Any entry not complying with these terms is invalid.  Errors and omissions may be accepted at Landcare Victoria’s discretion.

23. Landcare Victoria Inc’s decision is final in relation to all aspects of this Competition and no correspondence will be entered into in that respect.

24. Beneficiaries of a Prize accept the Prize ‘as is’ and acknowledge that Landcare Victoria Inc. accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from their Prize. Beneficiaries of a Prize should seek advice from the Australian Tax Office or their own taxation adviser or independent financial adviser.

25. If a prize (or part of a prize) is unavailable for reasons beyond Landcare Victoria’s reasonable control, and Landcare Victoria Inc. and a Winner are unable to reach agreement regarding replacement of that prize (or part of that prize), Landcare Victoria Inc. may substitute alternative goods or services of equal or higher value, subject to any regulatory requirements.  

26. Promoter reserves the right, at any time, in its sole discretion, to verify the validity of entries and Participating Groups (including, Donation Partner ID, containers collected and identity of group members) and reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any Participating Group whom Landcare Victoria Inc. has reason to believe has breached any of these terms, tampered with the entry process or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise fair and proper conduct of the Competition. Landcare Victoria Inc.'s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.

27. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned (including, but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of Landcare which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition), Landcare Victoria Inc. may, subject to the approval of all relevant regulatory authorities, take any action that may be available including cancelling, terminating, modifying or suspending the Competition.

28. Failure by Landcare Victoria Inc. to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

29. Nothing in these terms limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act, as well as any other implied warranties under the ASIC Act or similar consumer protection laws in the states and territories of Australia (Non-Excludable Guarantees).

30. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, Landcare Victoria Inc. and its related entities (including its respective directors, officers, employees and agents) are not responsible for and exclude all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of:  

  1. any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under Landcare’s control);
  2. any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference;
  3. any entry or Prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by Landcare) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of Landcare;
  4. any variation in Prize value to that stated in these terms;
  5. any tax liability incurred by a beneficiary of a Prize (including any Winner);
  6. use/taking of a Prize; or
  7. the Competition.

31. All entries become the sole property of Landcare Victoria Inc.. Landcare Victoria Inc. collects your personal information so that it may process your entry, administer this Competition and contact you regarding information on products or services that may be of interest to you.

32. Landcare Victoria Inc. may communicate personal information to external providers and organisations to which it may outsource certain functions.

33. Landcare Victoria Inc. will use and handle your personal information as set out in its Privacy Policy, which can be viewed at https://landcarevictoria.org.au/privacy . The Privacy Policy set outs how you may access, update or correct your personal information, change your direct marketing preferences or make a privacy complaint.
