How to make a return

CDS Vic provides a 10 cent refund for every eligible drink container returned.  Each bottle, can and carton that you return helps to divert valuable containers from landfill. 

Eligible containers
Most aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. Keep the lids on, we recycle them too!

There are hundreds of refund points across Victoria, so look out for your local. The network has more than 600 refund points.

There are multiple ways to receive your 10 cent refund. You can either keep your refund, or support your favourite cause with a donation.

CDS Vic Biggest Fan Competition Terms and Conditions

1. The VicReturn 'CDS Vic Biggest Fan' Competition (Competition) is conducted by VicReturn Limited ABN 54 643 014 895 of Level 15, 575 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (VicReturn) as Scheme Coordinator of VicReturn’s Container Deposit Scheme (Scheme).

2. The Competition commences at 9am (AEDT) on 1 November 2025 and closes at 11.59pm (AEDT) on 30 November 2025 (Competition Period).

Eligibility / How to enter

3. Entry is open to Australian residents who:

  1. reside in the State of Victoria;  
  2. are over the age of 18 years, or, if under the age of 18 years, have obtained consent from their parent or legal guardian before participating in the Competition; and  
  3. are not a person, or an immediately family member of a person, who is (as determined by VicReturn):  
    1. involved (whether as a principal, agent or employee) in the conduct or the promotion of the Competition (including any person who determines who is to win a prize in the Competition); or
    2. an employee or contractor of VicReturn, Recycling Victoria, a Network Operator (Return-It, Tomra Cleanaway or Visy) or a Collection Point Operator contracted by a Network Operator,  

(Eligible Entrants).

4. To enter, an Eligible Entrant must, at any time before the end of the Competition Period:

  1. create and share a public post showcasing how the Eligible Entrant is a fan of Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme;
  2. tag the relevant official Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme account (e.g. @cdsvic on Instagram, @cds_vic on TikTok or Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme on Facebook); and
  3. use the hashtag #CDSVicFan,  

(Eligible Entry).  

5. While there is no limit to the maximum number of times a person can enter the Competition, only one Eligible Entry per person will be considered for judging under clauses 9, 11 and 18 below.  

Use and rights to shared content  

6. By entering the Competition, Eligible Entrants:

  1. agree that they have read, understood and agree to these terms;  
  2. agree that VicReturn and its partners may share, reshare repost Eligible Entries, including Eligible Entrants’ account names or handles, on any official CDS Vic social media platform for the purposes of promoting the Competition;  
  3. consent to and grant VicReturn a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use and share Eligible Entries for the purposes of promoting VicReturn and the Scheme; and  
  4. when using Facebook or Instagram as part of this Competition, fully release and hold Meta harmless from liability.  

Determining the winner

7. Eligible Entries will be judged on creativity, enthusiasm, the best representation of the Scheme.  

8. Entries will be judged by a panel of 5 CDS Vic staff (comprising staff from VicReturn and CDS Vic’s Network Operators) at 11.59am on 3 December 2025 at Level 15, 575 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (Judging Panel).

9. The Eligible Entry that is judged by the Judging Panel as being most creative, enthusiastic, and best representation of the Scheme, will be deemed the winner (Winner).

10. The Winner will receive:  

  1. AU$2,000 cash;  
  2. four (4) x Zoos Victoria Animal Experiences of their choice valued up to $89 per experience (includes zoo entry, Zoos Victoria terms and conditions apply Zoos Victoria terms and conditions and total $356 in value), and  
  3. the right to direct VicReturn to donate AU$2000 to registered CDS Vic Donation Partner nominated by the Winner, valued at a total of $4356.  

11. The Eligible Entry that is judged by the Judging Panel as being the second most creative, second most enthusiastic, and second-best representation of the Scheme (Runner Up) will receive:  

  1. AU$1000 cash; and  
  2. Two (2) x Zoos Victoria adult memberships – Kids under 16 added free (total value $298), valued at a total of $1298,  

(together, the Prizes)

12. Eligible Entrants are not required to be present at judging to be eligible to win a Prize.

Announcing the winner

13. VicReturn will take reasonable steps to notify the Winner and Runner Up directly by private message within 2 business days of judging.

14. The name of the Winners and Runner Up will be announced on the CDS Vic website cdsvic.org.au on 8 December 2025, provided the Winner and Runner up have been notified by private message and then acknowledge and accept these terms in writing within 2 business days of being contacted by email and/or phone.

Claiming the prize

15. The Winner, Runner Up or Reserve Winner under clause 18 (Prize Recipient) must each claim their Prize by 11.59pm (AEDT) by 11 February 2026 by confirming receipt of the notification by return email.

16. As a condition of claiming, each Prize Recipient must, or if the Prize Recipient is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian of the Prize Recipient must:

  1. agree to provide proof of Victorian residence and age (eg, government issued ID or other document);  
  2. consent to the publication of their name in accordance with these terms; and  
  3. consent to VicReturn using the Prize Recipient's name, likeness, image and/or voice (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) and suburb in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of this Competition (including any outcome) and promoting recycling activities undertaken by the Scheme.  

17. Prize Winners acknowledge that:  

  1. Zoos Victoria Prizes will be emailed to Prize Recipients;  
  2. The cash prizes will be provided to Prize Recipients either by bank transfer or in the form of a Visa gift card, as determined by VicReturn in its discretion; and  
  3. The Winner right to direct VicReturn to donate AU$2000 to a registered CDS Vic Donation Partner is not exchangeable for cash and cannot not be retained by the Winner.  

Reserve Winners  

18. If the Prize is not claimed by 11.59am by 8 December 2025 as required by clauses 15 and 16, the Winner or Runner up will be taken to have forfeited the Prize and the Prize may be awarded to a reserve winner determined at the time the entries are judged (Reserve Winner).

19. VicReturn will notify that Reserve Winner private message, and then later by email and/or phone within 7 days of the Prize being awarded to them, and VicReturn will publish the Reserve Winner's details in the manner described in clause 14.  

20. The first Reserve Winner must claim the Prize within 14 days and comply with the conditions in clause 16.  

21. If the first Reserve Winner does not claim the Prize within 14 days, the next Reserve Winner will be awarded the Prize in accordance with the process set out in clause 16, and the process will be repeated until the Prize has been claimed.  

Resolving disputes

22. Complaints regarding the Competition may be submitted by:

  1. calling 134 237
  2. emailing [email protected]

23. If there is a dispute concerning the complaint, the decision of VicReturn is final and binding, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

General

24. VicReturn acknowledges that this Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed administered by or associated with Meta or Tiktok.  

25. Information on how to enter and prize details set out in all communications regarding the Competition form part of these terms.

26. Should they be a Winner, Eligible Entrants consent to publication of their name in accordance with these terms.

27. Any entry not complying with these terms is invalid.  Errors and omissions may be accepted at VicReturn's discretion.

28. VicReturn’s decision is final in relation to all aspects of this Competition and no correspondence will be entered into in that respect.

29. Beneficiaries of the Prize accept the Prize ‘as is’ and acknowledge that VicReturn accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from their Prize. Beneficiaries of the Prize should seek advice from the Australian Tax Office or their own taxation adviser or independent financial adviser.

30. If a prize (or part of a prize) is unavailable for reasons beyond VicReturn's reasonable control, and VicReturn and the Winner are unable to reach agreement regarding replacement of that prize (or part of that prize), VicReturn may substitute alternative goods or services of equal or higher value, subject to any regulatory requirements.  

31. VicReturn reserves the right, at any time, in its sole discretion, to verify the validity of entries and Eligible Entrants (including an Eligible Entrant’s identity, age, place of residence) and reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any Eligible Entrant whom VicReturn has reason to believe has breached any of these terms, tampered with the entry process or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise fair and proper conduct of the Competition. VicReturn's legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.

32. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned (including, but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of VicReturn which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition), VicReturn may, subject to the approval of all relevant regulatory authorities, take any action that may be available including cancelling, terminating, modifying or suspending the Competition.

33. Failure by VicReturn to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

34. Nothing in these terms limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act, as well as any other implied warranties under the ASIC Act or similar consumer protection laws in the states and territories of Australia (Non-Excludable Guarantees).

35. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, VicReturn and its related entities (including its respective directors, officers, employees and agents) are not responsible for and exclude all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of: 

  1. any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under VicReturn’s control);
  2. any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference;
  3. any entry or Prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by VicReturn) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of VicReturn;
  4. any variation in Prize value to that stated in these terms;
  5. any tax liability incurred by a beneficiary of a Prize (including an Eligible Entrant and the Prize Recipient);  
  6. use/taking of the Prize; or
  7. the Competition.

36. All entries become the sole property of VicReturn. VicReturn collects your personal information so that it may process your entry, administer this Competition and contact you regarding information on products or services that may be of interest to you  

37. VicReturn may communicate personal information to external providers and organisations to which it may outsource certain functions.

38. VicReturn will use and handle your personal information as set out in the CDS Vic and VicReturn Privacy Policies, which can be viewed at https://cdsvic.org.au/privacy-policy and  https://vicreturn.com.au/privacy/ respectively. The Privacy Policy set outs how you may access, update or correct your personal information, change your direct marketing preferences or make a privacy complaint.
