Romsey Tennis Club's commitment to sustainability

background hero image
Romsey Tennis Club has turned recycling into a winning strategy - both for the environment and their club! As the top-performing club in the CDS Vic x Tennis Victoria competition, Romsey was rewarded with an unforgettable experience at the Australian Open Men’s Singles Final, including an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour.

Since joining Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic), Romsey Tennis Club has raised over $1,800, putting those funds towards much-needed court upgrades. By collecting and returning eligible drink containers, the club has created an easy and sustainable way to fundraise while reducing waste.

CDS Vic at the Australian Open

This year’s AO partnership demonstrated the power of recycling on a large scale:

  • 740,000+ cans and PET bottles were collected and recycled, with refunds supporting the Australian Tennis Foundation.
  • More than 2,000 bins of glass were hand-separated, crushed, and recycled.
  • 53+ tonnes of cardboard were sorted and processed.
  • 29 Trash Talkers assisted fans with correct recycling at five onsite hubs.

Romsey Tennis Club’s success shows that any club can benefit from CDS Vic fundraising. It’s a simple and effective way to generate income while making a positive environmental impact.

How can clubs get involved

Step 1

As a Tennis Victoria member, your club received a unique Donation Partner ID via email.

Depending on which CDS Vic zone your club is based in, the prompts in the email will direct you to activate your Donation Partner ID with your local Zone Operator/s.

Step 2

You will need your club's bank details handy to complete the activation process.

Completing the activation process will allow your supporters to choose your club in the respective CDS Vic apps and donate their refunds to you at a refund point.

Romsey Tennis Club has also found success by offering to collect containers from locals, helping them build strong community ties and maximise their fundraising efforts.
