How to make a return

CDS Vic provides a 10 cent refund for every eligible drink container returned.  Each bottle, can and carton that you return helps to divert valuable containers from landfill. 

Eligible containers
Most aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. Keep the lids on, we recycle them too! 
Refund point types

There are hundreds of refund points across Victoria, so look out for your local. The network has more than 600 refund points.

There are multiple ways to receive your 10 cent refund. You can either keep your refund, or support your favourite cause with a donation.

CDS Vic and Landcare Victoria partnership

From 2 June 2025, CDS Vic will dollar match the first five Landcare groups to raise $1,000 through the scheme.*

Across Victoria, scores of Landcare groups and networks are actively cleaning up to reduce litter, inspiring their community to recycle responsibly and helping Victoria’s transition to a circular economy.

In recognition of their contribution, we are proud to partner with Landcare Victoria to boost container collection and support Victorian Landcare groups raise important funds through the scheme.

As part of the partnership, we’ve launched a dollar match competition exclusively for Victorian Landcare groups who will now have the chance to double their impact.*

About the Dollar Match Competition

From 2 June 2025 to 11:59 PM AEST on 31 October 2025, CDS Vic will dollar match the first five Landcare groups to raise $1,000 through the scheme.

Who can participate?  

Entry is open to Landcare networks and groups that are:

  • Operating in Victoria
  • Financial Members of Landcare Victoria Inc.
  • Registered as a Donation Partner with CDS Vic and at least one CDS Vic Zone Operator (TOMRA Cleanaway, Visy, or Return It).

 

How can my group participate?  

Eligible groups can participate by:  

  • Presenting a minimum of 10,000 eligible containers (raising at least $1,000) at CDS Vic refund points.
  • Ensuring each container is recorded as collected against the Participating Group’s Donation Partner ID through the Zone Operator’s app or as directed by Refund Point staff.

 

We have raised $1,000 within the competition period. What’s next?  

It is easy! Complete the application form online  and submit proof of transactions showing that at least 10,000 containers were returned (or $1,000 were raised) during the competition period in compliance with the Terms and Conditions.

Double your impact

You might already be donation partner with CDS Vic on the cusp of starting your fundraising journey or have already raised hundreds of dollars collecting and returning drink containers for a refund. The good news is that the clocks are resetting.  

With every eligible container, you’re contributing to a cleaner Victoria and a stronger circular economy. Ten cents adds up fast and so start collecting!
