Welcoming the Year of the Snake with 10 cent fortunes

background hero image

This January, our partnership with St Albans Business Association Group (SABGAI) and Springvale Asian Business Association (SABA) came to life at the vibrant Lunar New Year festival celebrations in St Albans and Springvale.

In the spirit of new beginnings and good fortune, we were thrilled to support all festival-goers do something good with their bottles, cans and cartons.

That meant helping visitors find their nearest refund points, showcasing the circular journey of a recycled plastic bottle, introducing the many ways of participating in the scheme as well as giving away hundreds of CDS Vic bags to further support container collection in the community.

Over 50,000 people attended the festival in St Albans and nearly 90,000 people attended the festival in Springvale. The best bit (and by far, the community favourite for both events) was the recycling competition that gave participants one minute to separate eligible containers from ineligible containers. The record winning time was 15 seconds!

A special shoutout to the recycling champions at Springvale Rise Primary School who were fantastic volunteers helping participants of the game find the 10 cent mark.

“The Lunar New Year celebrations are a fun and exciting opportunity to bring the community together and show how simple actions like returning drink containers can help build a greener, more sustainable future for Victorians,” said Jim Round, CEO of scheme coordinator VicReturn.

“Whether it’s raising funds for local initiatives or educating attendees about recycling, these events provide a powerful platform for positive change.”

Chúc mừng năm mới. Happy Lunar New Year!
